Blutplättchen; spielen eine wichtige Rolle bei der Blutgerinnung. Bei einer Verletzung legen sich die Thrombozyten an die Wände der verletzten Blutgefäße, kleben aneinander fest und schließen so die Lücke im Blutgefäß. Auf diese Weise wird die Blutung gestoppt. Löst sich eine solche Ansammlung von Thrombozyten, kann es allerdings auch zur Bildung von Blutgerinnseln (Thromben) kommen.
